Forget about Warby Parker.
A while back, I was waxing lyrical about Warby Parker and their stylish, retro-inspired selection of glasses. I liked how they offered prescription glasses for only $95, with the ability to try them on first at home. However, I tried ordering from them on two separate occasions and found their stock depleted on each of the frames I wanted to try. Their quick rise in popularity was surely a factor in this. Though, I needed new glasses and the wait time for them was longer than I wanted.
I researched for alternatives and was led to a website I now love, by the name of Zenni Optical. They offer thousands of frame styles, with prices ranging from $6 to $46. Yes, you read those prices right. Steer clear if you’re concerned about wearing trendy names, since you won’t find designer frames. It’s great for people like me who care more about their wallet than being trendy. I was tired of paying ridiculously inflated prices each time I bought new glasses. The pair I bought last year was somewhere around $300. I have good vision benefits through my work, and I’d hate to know what I would have paid without them. Yes, the glasses from Zenni are made in China. Given the savings involved, I really don’t care. I’ll never be ripped off for glasses again.
Thanks to Zenni, I now have four pairs of glasses, for a smidgen over $100. Given the price, I thought it would be fun to have a few pairs to choose from each day, rather than the one I was always stuck with. Different styles for different moods, if you will. It’s only $5 to add anti-reflective coating or sunglass tint. I added the anti-reflective coating to all four pairs, and sunglass tint to the aviator frames. Now, for the first time ever, I have prescription sunglasses. Incredibly cheap glasses for the win!
